Mary Laird has owned Toad Rock since 1974. She
built the log home with her former husband, but most of the 34 acres of forested land was left untouched for the bulk of that time. Many changes to the Toad Rock landscape have taken place since meeting Steve Ramsbottom in 1997.
With friends and family camping out at Toad Rock from spring to fall, and their shared passion for motorcycles, the development of a motorcycle campground was a natural.
It was planned to develop over the coming years, but the plan was moved along in 2003 when they were asked to host a rally for BCCOM and AIM. The event was a great success and they stayed open for the rest of the season.
The “social pavilion” is supported by living trees, and with it’s pool table, kitchen area, and sound system; it is the gathering place for the campers. The washhouse was completed in 2004. It is set back near the campsites, and provides hot showers, flush toilets, and laundry facilities.
While Steve focuses on his computer business, Mary has put herself under voluntary house arrest so she can finally stay home and take care of the campers.
With the operation of the campground based on the honour system, it’s not hard to entice them for a personally guided tour of their favorite local rides.
